The Light in the Woods is Book #5 in the Folk Art Animals series.
The Light in the Woods is a comforting bedtime mystery about curiosity, courage, and friendship showing young readers that even when things feel uncertain or scary, there is always a way forward—and always a light to guide the way.
Before sunrise, four animal friends catch a glimpse of a mysterious light in the distance. Fox can’t wait to rush off and find out what it is. Raccoon worries they might get lost. Clever Cat knows to follow the clues, while kind-hearted Kitty reminds everyone to stay together.
The friends set off to solve the mystery, following clues through a peaceful woodland landscape. But Fox gets ahead of the others, and soon the friends discover that finding their way is not only about knowing which way to go—it is also about slowing down and staying together.
A mysterious riddle gives them more clues:
“IT WATCHES THE WATER,
FROM A TALL PLACE IT BEAMS,
THE LIGHT DOES NOT HURRY,
IT WAITS TO BE SEEN.”
Young readers are invited to solve the mystery alongside Raccoon, Fox, Cat, and Kitty. Set among the natural beauty of Assateague Island, Virginia, the story gently introduces children to a real lighthouse and the idea that light can guide us through darkness.
Photographs of real, hand-carved and painted wooden folk art animals are placed in beautiful natural settings, creating a unique visual experience that combines folk art, photography, and storytelling. The peaceful woods, changing light, and natural landscape invite children to slow down and notice the world around them.
A mystery. A riddle. A beautiful journey through the woods. And a reminder that we are never alone when we have friends beside us.
